How we use public weather phone lines

Some of our reports come from calling public airport weather phone lines. Those lines exist so pilots can get weather.

  • We call each line at most once every 10 minutes (20 minutes for ATIS), and never twice at the same time.
  • If a line is busy or does not answer, we redial in 5 seconds, up to 3 tries.
  • We record until the line goes quiet for 20 seconds or 60 seconds have passed, then hang up.
  • A request for a fresh report inside these limits gets our most recent capture, with its time, and is not charged as a call.
  • If an airport operator, the FAA, or the National Weather Service asks us to reduce or stop calls to a line, we will. Contact support@flyownnav.com.

No plan, price, or agreement buys more calls to a line than this. We do not support calling these phone lines for non-aviation purposes.
